Phil Mulloy’s The Banker, Jean-Francois Laguionie’s Le Tableau (The Painting) and Don Hertzfeldt’s latest short It’s Such a Beautiful Day are part of the terrific lineup for this year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), it was announced today. Ignacio Ferreras’ Arrugas (Wrinkles), Paul Bush’s Babeldom, Chris Sullivan’s Consuming Spirits and Laguionie’s Le Tableau are competing in the Best Animated Feature category. Supinfocom (France), National Film and TV (U.K.) and Tokyo University of the Arts (Japan) were selected in the School Show Reel category.
Run Wrake’s Down with the Dawn, Grant Orchard’s A Morning Stroll, PES’ Fresh Guacamole, Theodore Ushev’s Nightingales in December, Barry Purves’ Plume, Peter Peake’s Pythagasaurus, Michaeala Pavlatova’s Tram and Carlo Vogele’s Una Furtiva Lagrima are among the many experimental and narrative shorts also featured in this year’s competition.
“This is one of the strongest competitions we’ve had in years,” says Chris Robinson, artistic director of the OIAF, which takes place September 19-23rd. This year, the Festival received a record-setting 2,377 entries, selecting 101 finalists for competition. OIAF competition includes categories for best feature, narrative, experimental and student films, TV shows, commercials, and music video. There is also a separate competition for films and TV shows made for children. Prizes will be awarded to category winners and a grand prize will be awarded to the winner of each competition: best Short Film, Feature Film, Student, and Commissioned Film.
