Irish children’s animation studio Brown Bag Films is launching a new label called Icehouse that will make content for an older audience.
“I grew up on a diet of comic books, computer games and sci-fi. Now I want to bring some of these ideas to the screen and share what I loved about them,” Brown Bag co-founder Darragh O’Connell told Variety.
O’Connell will team with Los Angeles-based producer Gregory R. Little on Icehouse, and will be looking for creator-driven projects that take risks and can be made on a lower budget, the trade reports. The company, with facilities in Dublin and Los Angeles, also will develop ideas for animated features.
Brown Bag is best known for producing such animated children’s shows as Doc McStuffins and The Octonauts.
Icehouse will use Brown Bag’s Dublin-based facilities, plus its full-time staff of more than 100.
