Audiences Get Chance to Find Pixar’s ‘Nemo’ in 3D

Nemo’s back, and he’s so excited he’s about to pop right off the screen.

The stereoscopic 3D re-release of the Pixar blockbuster Finding Nemo leads the major theatrical releases this week and looks to pick up business after a lackluster showing in recent weeks. The movie was first released in 2003 to rave reviews and blockbuster business, selling $867 million worth of tickets around the world. The stereoscopic re-release arrives Friday in some 2,900 theaters.

Here’s the trailer for the re-release:

For comparison, the 2009 re-release in 3D of Pixar’s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on a double bill took in about $32 million worldwide. Earlier this year, the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace took in about $43 million domestic.

The movie is slated for a 3D Blu-ray release Dec. 4. The only film opening wider is the horror/videogame sequel Resident Evil: Retribution, starring Milla Jovovich and opening in slightly more than 3,000 cinemas.

Still in release is the animated Laika feature ParaNorman. Also still playing in a handful theaters: Summer Pixar entry Brave, Fox’s Ice Age: Continental Drift and DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3.
