A new hybrid live-action/animated feature film written by an ex-SNL cast member is the next step for Warner Bros.’ famous Looney Tunes franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired Jenny Slate, a cast member from the 2009-10 season of Saturday Night Live, to write a script for the film. David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith of KatzSmith are on board to produce along with Harry Potter producer David Heyman and his Heyday Films president Jeffrey Clifford.
Slate, who also has appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and provided voices in the animated features Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, co-wrote and co-voiced a well-received stop-motion short called Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.

The Looney Tunes were previously made into a big-screen feature with the hybrid 1996 hit Space Jam, followed by a 2003 sequel, Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Warner Bros. Animation has a hit TV series on Cartoon Network in The Looney Tunes Show, which is about to start its second season. Details of Slate’s take are being kept under wraps, the Reporter writes.
