Brits looking to break into the visual effects industry, take note: The BFX Festival set for this summer in Bournemouth in the south of England has announced a student competition.
The competition is designed to give participants direct exposure to cutting-edge practices whilse showcasing their skills to some of the best supervisors, producers and artists in the VFX and animation industries.
Working in teams of 4-6 contestants will be tasked with creating a stunning 2D or 3D visual effects or animation sequence, based on a passage from classic literature. They will be mentored by experts from the leading British studios including Framestore, Double-Negative, The Mill, MPC and Cinesite and be assessed by a panel of independent judges to find the winning team. The best individuals in specific disciplines will be given the opportunity to take up internships at some of the studios taking part in BFX.
The competition is open to all U.K. HEI (university or art college) students or recent graduates of visual effects or animation.
BFX competition will be hosted by Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth from July 8 to Aug. 16. The contest is free to enter and participating teams will receive free accommodation and each member will receive a stipend towards their living expenses and travel. The number of slots is limited, so all applications will be subject to a shortlisting process and interview.
