The Hub will be launching two newly acquired series this summer as the network imports “she-larious” animated comedy SheZow from Oz and live-action hit Wizards vs. Aliens from the U.K. Both shows will have their U.S. debut Saturday, June 1 on the kid-centric network.
Premiering at 12:30 p.m. ET, SheZow is a 2D-animated action-comedy that follows 12-year-old Guy Hamdon (voiced by Voltron Force‘s Sam Vincent), who fancies himself an extreme dude with his own macho catch phrase: “It’s a GUY thing.” His life gets turned on its head when he discovers an awesome ring of power that transforms him into a kick-butt superhero–the only catch is that the ring is meant for a girl. As crime fighter SheZow, Guy–with his bossy twin sister Kelly (Diana Kaarina) and side-kick Maz (Matt Hill)–must use his superpowers to battle villains while sporting an outrageous female hero costume, which actually ends up helping him on his personal journey to be a super man. The half-hour series was created and written by Obie Scott Wade. Lois Kramer Lunsford, Jason Netter, Gillian Carr, Huoi Seong Low, Brenda Wooding and Wade are all exec producers. The show is produced by Kickstart Prod. and Moody Street Kids with partners Film Victoria and Vision Animation and is distributed by DHX Media.
Kicking off at 7 p.m. ET with a two part episode, Wizards vs. Aliens centers on 16-year-old Tom Clarke (Upstairs Downstairs‘ Scott Haran) who confides the secret of his status as a magic-powers wielding wizard to best friend Benny (Percelle Ascott). Together they embark on a dark crusade to save the world from the alien Nekross which feed on magic, with the help of his enchanted grandmother (Annette Badland). The show is created by writer-producers Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who) and Phil Ford (Sarah Jane Adventures) and is produced by BBC Cymru Wales and FremantleMedia Kids & Family Ent.
June 1 will also see the return of Hub’s established series with two new back-to-back episodes of Pound Puppies (9 and 9:30 a.m. ET), The Aquabats! Super Show! season 2 premiere (1 p.m.). Plus, all-new episodes of Kaijudo: Clash of the Duel Masters arrive June 21 at 3:30 p.m.
