The cool clips just keep coming as we unveil the third of our five-part series of The Aquabats! Super Show! season 2 episodic sneak-peeks! Each of the first five episodes of the new season, airing Saturdays on Hub Network, include one Bat’s recollection of how the musically gifted superhero team came to be—each told with a different style of animation. If you missed the first installment, check out the clip and additional info from show creator, exec producer and star Christian Jacobs (a.k.a. MC Bat Commander) here, and read about last week’s clip here.
This week’s episode, airing June 15 at 1 p.m., is titled “Bad Apple!” and sends the Aquabats on a visit to Jimmy’s parents’ farm for genetically enlarged produce. The awkward homecoming is interrupted by a giant worm that swallows Jimmy’s mom whole, and the ‘bats must act fast to save her.
In this installment, Jimmy the Robot (James Briggs) gets to share his tale of leaving his dull life on the apple farm in search of a brighter future in the big city, and how he met up with the Aquabats band. The totally retro CG animation was delivered by Stephen Sobisky at Sandman Studios in Lehi, Utah.
“Without spoiling too much of the episode, [Jimmy]’s remembering how he ran away from home and joined up with the Aquabats,” Christian Jacobs explains. “We did in it in a very early CGI style, so it’s kind of like Dire Straits’ ‘Money for Nothing and Chicks for Free’—that kind of style, with this super early 3D animation. It’s very Minecraft feeling. It’s really kind of 16-bit, early CGI. It turned out really funny, and really clunky and kinda robotic—which works perfectly, since Jimmy is a robot.”
