First Glimpse at Disney’s ‘Frozen’

Toon fans will no longer have to speculate about the final look of Disney’s upcoming CG feature Frozen based on years-old concept art: the Mouse House has offered its first glimpse at the action-packed retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen tale. The 3-D film will open on November 27. Check out the first batch of images below, the new exclusive trailer on www.weather.com, and the new interactive game Olaf’s Freeze Fall on www.disney.com.

Helmed by Chris Buck (Tarzan, Surf’s Up) and co-director Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, Wreck-It Ralph), the film takes place in a kingdom trapped by a dark prophecy in eternal winter, where fearless optimist Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) teams up with mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his reindeer sidekick, Sven, on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister, Elsa (Idina Menzel)–the Snow Queen–and put an end to her icy spell. Along the way the adventurous band encounter mystical trolls, an enchanted, hilarious snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad), Everest-like conditions and magic at every turn. Not to mention a tricky love triangle between Anna, Kristoff and dashing Prince Hans (Santino Fontana). The film will also feature music from Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon).

Co-director Lee told USA Today that despite the adventurous tale and romantic subplot, the story will focus more on the relationship between the two sisters, who are “torn apart by a family secret.”

Voice star Bell added that “[Anna is] not a good fighter, she doesn’t have good posture, she’s not very elegant, and she’s constantly putting her foot in her mouth … but she’s a good person and she’s utterly determined.”
