Brian Blessed Voices ‘Fearsome Beastie’

Known for his luxuriant beard, impeccable diction and commanding voice, legendary British actor Brian Blessed is taking a turn from him usual sci-fi and historical roles (Star Wars, Flash Gordon) to lend his talent to a new CG animated project based on the award-winning children’s book The Fearsome Beastie, by Giles Paley-Phillips. Unsurprisingly, Blessed will be voicing the titular Beastie.

“I’m always on the look-out for original projects and as soon as I read the book and started thinking about Beastie, I knew that I had to be involved,” said Blessed. “I think children’s animation is having a fantastic resurgence and I’m proud to be a part of this animation.”

Another acclaimed Brit recently joined Blessed on the Beastie cast list as Alison Steadman (The Singing Detective, Pride and Prejudice) signed on to be the narrator after being sent a copy of the book.

“Brian Blessed and Alison Steadman were our only choices for these roles in The Fearsome Beastie so we’re delighted to have them on board and to get the project underway,” said Katie Steed of Slurpy Studios, who is co-directing the project with UCA Farnham animation student Jon Hunt.

The Fearsome Beastie will be released next summer and is a co-production of Slurpy and UCA.
