Oneida Indian Nation Releases New Animated Project

The Oneida Indian Nation’s Four Directions Productions has released My Home: An Oneida Legend, the second in a series of animated short film Blu-ray/DVD combo packs with an illustrated hardcover book, on Amazon.com on August 19. My Home: An Oneida Legend (Kids 5-8; $24.95) follows Four Directions’ first animated film/book package, the 2010 multiple award-winning Raccoon & Crawfish.

My Home follows Eli, a young Oneida boy on his first fishing trip, as he listens to his Grandfather tell the story of a precocious young turtle who wakes up to find that a not-very-good neighbor beaver has changed her home. The beaver, more interested in technology than the nature around him, actually thinks the environment just may have to suffer in the name of “progress.” The turtle, upset, realizes she has to stop the turtle to save her way of life.

“We make films like My Home: An Oneida Legend to preserve the Oneida Indian culture for the seventh generation,” says Oneida Indian Nation Representative and exec producer Ray Halbritter. “Four Directions’ wise and lovely animated films and books allow us to tap into the enormous wealth of narrative material within Indian Country and for the first time share our original legends with the world through the magic of animation. My Home is a wonderful story that will touch the hearts of audiences of all ages.”

The animated short has already received a Director’s Citation for Best Animation at the Syracuse International Film Festival; a Gold Award for Best Animated Film at the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival; an Honorable Mention at the Columbus Film Festival, and an Award of Excellence for Animation at The Indie Fest.

“With the wealth of production talent existing within the Native community, Four Directions Productions is steadily building a world-class animation studio with the goal of preserving the Oneida culture by producing and telling our own stories,” said Dale Rood (Turtle Clan), Four Directions Productions’ studio operations director and Oneida Nation Council Member.
