Del Toro Delivers Halloween ‘Simpsons’ Opener

What better way to kick off The Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror XXIV” Halloween special than an opening created by everyone’s favorite monster maker Guillermo del Toro. The director of Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Cronos and The Devil’s Backbone has planned a sequence featuring favorite monsters and creatures from horror films for the October 6 episode of the long-running Fox series.

The Simpsons’ Halloween anthology will offer three separate stories: The first one finds Homer wreaking havoc around Springfield in a rhyming take on a popular children’s book. The middle story, “Dead and Shoulders,” finds Bart beheaded during a kite accident and his head attached to Lisa’s body forever. The final segment, “Freaks No Geeks,” is set against the backdrop of Mr. Burns’ traveling circus The Burnsum and Bailey Circus, where Moe starts to make advances toward trapeze artist Marge.

Among Del Toro’s many upcoming projects is The Incredible Hulk TV series (exec producer, director), Kung Fu Panda 3 (exec producer), The Strain TV movie (exec producer, director), Crimson Peak (director/exec producer) and Jorge Gutierrez’s animated feature Book of Life for Reel FX (exec producer).
