+ Adult Swim, the mature auds-targeted basic cable network, has launched live streaming functionality on AdultSwim.com and via the Watch [adult swim] app for iOS and Android. The launch marks another step in the network’s platform expansion and will offer TV subscribers comedy programming like the Emmy-winning series Children’s Hospital and Robot Chicken in real time on any device through the app, which boasts nearly 4 million downloads to date. Live-streaming joins Adult Swim’s digital portfolio which already includes original and exclusive online content, top-performing mobile games, a growing slate of indie games published on Steam plus more than 130 free online games, including the popular Robot Unicorn Attack.
+ Yummico, the kids’ media company founded by Blue’s Clues creator Traci Paige Johnson and filmmakers Caroline Baron, Robert Mowen and Anthony Weintraub, has teamed up with New York’s public media outlet WNET (parent company to pubstations THIRTEEN and WLIW21 and operator NJTV) to develop a public media project focused on nutrition and healthy behavior, featuring original digital content from yummico’s musical food series Yummiloo as well as interactive content, videos, music, games and activities for preschoolers–plus information for parents, caregivers and educators. An interactive story-based game app, Yummiloo Rainbow Power, debuted on iTunes last spring.
+ Foothill Entertainment and preschool video platform Kidobi have announced plans for a digital distribution partnership that adds several series to the SVoD service. Animal Stories (52 x 5), Barney (13 x 5), Eddy & the Bear (26 x 11), Little Monsters (52 x 5), Microscopic Milton (26 x 5) and Zot the Dog (13 x 11) will join the Kidobi library and will be available to subscribers in Canada and the U.S. on Kidobi.com as well as through the platform’s mobile apps for iPad and Android.
+ Rovio Entertainment has passed the 1 billion views mark on its mobile platform video channel ToonsTV after just seven months of availability. The studio is planning to air new Angry Birds series and a range of third party content in 2014. Currently in development are Angry Birds season 2, a dedicated series for Bad Piggies and a dedicated series for Stella, the pink bird. In addition to in-house content, partners will provide ToonsTV with the worldwide launch of Stan Lee’s Chakra the Invincible (POW! Entertainment and Graphic India); shorts, specials and series from Hasbro Studios’ classic brands; National Geographic Kids’ Amazing Animals, The Jim Henson Company’s Fraggle Rock; and Oggy & the Cockroaches, Zig & Sharko, Space Goofs and more from Xilam Animation.
