Retailers will be offering a delightful stocking stuffer for Peyo-philes on December 3 as Sony Pictures Animation’s The Smurfs 2 arrives in Blu-ray 3D combo pack, Blu-ray combo pack, DVD and Digital HD UltraViolet formats from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. BR and BR 3D sets will also include the new 2D/CG hybrid mini movie The Legend of Smurfy Hollow.
Raja Gosnell’s The Smurfs 2, which has raked in over $300 million worldwide (so far), finds the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) at it again as he creates mischievous Smurf-like creatures called Naughties, Hackus (J.B. Smoove) and Vexy (Christina Ricci), in order to gather the magical Smurf essence. However, only Smurfette (Katy Perry) has the power to make them into real Smurfs, so Gargamel kidnaps the little blue heroine and leads the rest of the Smurf gang and their human pals (Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays) to travel to Paris to stage a rescue. The voice cast features George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, Alan Cumming, John Oliver, Brendan Gleeson, and the late Jonathan Winters—as well as celeb guests Mario Lopez, Jimmy Kimmel, Fred Armisen, Shaun White and Shaquille O’Neal.
Additional bonus features include deleted scenes, “Daddy’s Little Girl: The Journey of Smurfette” origin story featurette with input from Katy Perry and “Animating Azrael” with the animation team. BR/BR 3D exclusive featurettes are “The Puurrfest Companion: Azrael’s Tail,” which goes in-depth on the creation of the feline sidekick using a live cat, digital double and actor Frank Welker; “Evolution of the Naughties” about designing Hackus and Vexy; and “The Naughties! The Tale of Hackus and Vexy” featuring Cristina Ricci and J.B. Smoove.
