Stuttgart Fest Calls for Entries

The 2014 Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, taking place April 22-27, has put out a call for entries for its Animated Com Award and Crazy Horse Session programs. Stuttgart is one of the biggest international animation festivals, attracting approximately 80,000 visitors and roughly 2,500 accredited professionals this year. In addition to offering a platform for filmmakers, directors and production companies to showcase their shorts and features, the festival also offers an extensive program of workshops, informational events, presentations and more.

The Animated Com Award is now open for submissions in the field of applied animation. Prizes will be awarded for outstanding work in the areas of advertising, spatial communication and technology, as well as a special award from sponsor Daimler AG under the theme “Future needs derivation – Individual mobility.” The Daimler Special Award competition is open to national and international filmmakers—animation students and young studios—who are invited to create an animation around the theme of mobility and the history or personal stories of individual mobility in an innovative way with an emphasis on the passion for automobiles and sustainable solutions. Animated Com Award partners are Daimler AG, Lapp Kabel, ADC Deutschland, Mackevision Medien Design GmbH and Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart. Deadline: January 15, 2014. The Crazy Horse Session is the next iteration of the 48-hour, non-stop Animation Jam. Applications for participation in this live animation competition are open until February 1, 2014 to animation students from international film and art schools, as well as independent animators and animation producers aged 30 or younger. The event organizers will choose four to five teams from all applicants, and each two-member team must develop an animated film within 48 hours. All teams will use the same character—Festival mascot Trixi—to tell a short story of 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Deadline: Feb. 1, 2014. (More information)
