It seems that Gaumont Animation has something to cluck about as its children’s animated series Calimero has won over young audiences in France since its launch on TF1’s TFOU programming block on February 9. The show has achieved an audience share of 35.8% with children 4-10 over the last three Sundays (Feb. 9, 16 and 23), according to Mediametrie/Mediamat. The chick has also proved popular in the digital sphere as Calimero was ranked third favorite hero on tfou.fr in just two weeks.
The new series is based on the character created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi, which became an international hit with a 290-episode cartoon series which aired in over 80 countries. The CGI update — co-produced by Gaumont, rights owner Calidra, Italy’s Studio Campedelli and Japanese partners TV Tokyo and Kodansha — is set to air on RAI (Italy), Super RTL (Germany), Disney Junior, TV Tokyo, Tele Quebec and TSR (Switzerland). Gaumont is the international distributor and brand manager (excluding Asia) on behalf of Calidra.
