Last year, the Dublin Business Innovation Centre (Dublin BIC) proposed an initiative to address the skills gap in the local Games, Animation and VFX industries between what education provides and what the business demands. This year, The Bridge seeks to fill in that gap by creating “industry ready” participants who have experience in the business culture and the expectation of outputs in these sectors, allowing artists to fit in with studios more quickly.
The organizers propose that select graduates of animation, vfx and games programs participate in The Bridge 2014 — to be located at the Guinness Enterprise Centre — over a four month period from June to October. The program will be supervised by Richard Glynn, CEO and producer at Studio POWWOW in conjunction with Animation Skillnet, Screen Training Ireland, the GEC and Dublin BIC.
Participants will be provided with studio space, get to work on live projects while being supervised and mentored by studio professionals (last year’s Bridge program involved Brown Bag Film’s recently launched short Anya), receive a bursary to cover some expenses, get to work on a range of collaborative projects across the three categories, and have the opportunity to participate in specialized training sessions with industry professionals through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland.
Recent graduates in Ireland are invited to send inquiries of interest to richardglynn@studiopowwow.com and animationskillnet@dublinbic.ie by May 9.
