Momoco Animates ‘Love Punch’ Opening

In our opinion, there’s no better way to punch up a live-action movie than to add some animated titles — and that’s just what London-based Momoco did for the comedy The Love Punch, which opened April 18 in the United Kingdom.

Momoco co-founder and creative director Nic Benns says the piece was animated in four days, and received so warmly in tests that the producers decided to expand it.

“We had an open brief on the pitch,” says Benns. “The film had such classic warmth and we explored directions that were more classic and retro – a contemporary evolution of a style that would fit ’60s European cinema.”

The spot was directed and designed by Miki Kato and references key moments from the film. Benns animated the sequence in After Effects.

“We wanted to create a sequence that has momentum by using interesting and tricky transitions while hinting at the fun to be had later in the movie,” he says.
