The DC Universe animated feature Son of Batman will get its premiere screening later this month at WonderCon, followed by its release May 6 on Blu-ray combo pack, DVD and Digital HD.
Based on the 2006 comic-book storyline written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Andy Kubert, Batman and Son sees the Dark Knight learn that a prior dalliance with Talia al Ghul — daughter of master villain Ra’s Al Ghul — has resulted in a son named Damian. Batman takes the boy, who’s been trained as an assassin, under his wing as the new Robin and attempts to instill in the boy a sense of Bat-ethics.
(Us old-time comics readers remember the days when superheroes pined for sweethearts who ignored them. Now, they’re having illegitimate kids left and right and it’s the old-school DC folks who are most to blame. See: Superman Returns. Who would have thought?)
Rated PG-13, Batman and Son is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. Ethan Spaulding is directing the feature from a script by Joe R. Lansdale based on a story by James Robinson. Phil Bourassa is character designer on the feature and James Tucker is the producer.
The voice cast includes Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova, The Good Wife) as Batman and Bruce Wayne, Stuart Allan (Grey’s Anatomy) as Damian, Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds) as Deathstroke, Morena Baccarin (Homeland) as Talia, Xander Berkeley (Nikita) as Langstrom, David McCallum (NCIS) as Alfred, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Revolution) as Ra’s Al Ghul, Sean Maher (Firefly) as Nightwing/Dick Grayson, and Bruce Thomas (Kyle XY) as Gordon.
The release will include the following special features:

- Featurette – “Strange Blood Tie: Damian Wayne”
- A sneak peek at the next DCU Animated Movie – Batman: Assault of Arkham
- From the DC Comics Vault – 4 Bonus Cartoons
