Releases Revisit 1960s DC Heroes, ‘Jetsons’

They’re pitted against each other in the upcoming live-action movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader have a long history of being friendlier fellows in the animated shows of yesteryear.

Fans can revisit those simpler days with a pair of cool home video releases out this week: The Adventures of Batman: The Complete Series (Warner Bros., $19.97) and The New Adventures of Superman: Seasons 2 & 3 (Warner Bros., $19.97). Both collect the remainder of the short toons from the Batman/Superman Adventure Hour, which aired in the late 1960s and made by Lou Scheimer’s Filmation studio.

And if that’s not enough to quench your thirst for classic 1960s animation, there’s also the release of The Jetsons: Season 3 (Warner Bros., $21.99).

Younger viewers have some familiar friends to revisit this week, with the releases of Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Top Gear Trucks (Shout! Factory, $12.99), Franklin & Friends: Pirate Island (Phase 4 Films, $9.99) and Littlest Pet Shop: Strike a Pose! (Shout! Factory, $14.97).

Anime fans have a relatively light week with the release of Amnesia: The Complete Collection (Section23 Films, $59.98 DVD, $69.98 Blu-ray), Bleach Box Set 21 (VIZ Media, $44.82) and Dideback: The Complete Series (FUNimation, $34.98).

And for you anime fans out there, we want to point out that we’ve started a twice-a-month online anime review column written by Charles Solomon, a true expert in the field. Check out his first set of reviews here, and check back in a few weeks for more.
