‘Song of the Sea’ to Premiere at TIFF

Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon’s highly anticipated feature Song of the Sea is set to have its world premiere Sept. 6 at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, directed by Tomm Moore as the follow-up to the acclaimed The Secret of Kells, is one of two major animated features at the festival from indie distributor GKIDS. Moore will appear at the premiere screening, part of the TIFF Kids program.

The second feature is The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, which will have its North American premiere Sept. 5 at the festival in the TIFF Masters section. Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, who wrote and directed the film, will appear in person at the screening.

A third animation-related title from GKIDS is The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, a documentary about Studio Ghibli from director Mami Sunada that will have its North American premiere Sept. 8 in the TIFF Docs section.

GKIDS will release The Tale of the Princess Kaguya Oct. 17 in theaters, with Song of The Sea and The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness slated for later this year.
