Blackmagic Buys Fusion Maker Eyeon

Blackmagic Design has acquired Eyeon Software, maker of the widely used Fusion compositing software, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Blackmagic has been expanding steadily into the digital filmmaking and VFX markets in recent years, having added Da Vinci for its color grading capabilities and Resolve for its grading technology. It also has announced intentions to make its own cameras.

Eyeon employees including founder Steve Roberts will continue to develop Fusion out of Eyeon’s Toronto headquarters. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fusion is widely used and was part of the making of such recent visual-effects blockbusters as Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
