‘Something Wicked’ Signs Scriptwriter

In keeping with the Halloween vibe, Disney has announced it has reaped a writer for its upcoming adaptation of the Ray Bradbury horror classic Something Wicked This Way Comes. The studio has hired David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans) to bring the supernatural drama to the screen, supporting author/screenwriter turned first time director Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Johnson’s writing credits also include The Walking Dead and Red Riding Hood.

The 1962 novel centers on two teenage boys whose quaint Midwestern town is invaded by a mysterious carnival headed by a slick master of ceremonies who seems to have the power to grant the locals’ wishes. But as the boys’ suspicions grow, they realize the evil price the stranger takes in return.

The new adaptation is being produced by Disney and KatzSmith Productions, who jointly announced in March that the project was going forward. Disney previously produced a movie version of the tale in 1983, directed by Jack Clayton from a screenplay written by Bradbury himself.
