The Foundry Acquires Made With Mischief

Award winning software creator The Foundry is expanding its market reach while bolstering its tech strength with the acquisition of Made With Mischief. The company’s flagship product, Mischief, is a pen-based sketching application for Mac and Windows.

Under the terms of the deal, Made With Mischief (founded by Sarah Frisken) will become a wholly owned subsidiary of The Foundry and will be headquartered in Boston, with team members also located in London and Shanghai.

Mischief utilizes a revolutionary patented shape representation technology, known as Adaptively Sampled Distance Fields, co-invented by Frisken. The system provides high-quality stroke rendering, extremely responsive drawing thanks to hardware-based rendering, small file sizes, artifact-free scaling, and richer and more complex shapes than are possible with traditional vector-based stroke representations.

Users can purchase the full version of Mischief on the Mac App Store & the Mischief online store for $25. The full version of Mischief includes a full color panel with customizable color swatches, customizable brushes and Hotkeys, and a selection of background papers and colors, all on Mischief’s infinite canvas.

To encourage new users, the company will offer Mischief-Free, a new limited-feature edition that is completely free of charge. Mischief-Free includes basic brushes, colors and a full infinite canvas experience. It is ideal for young artists, enthusiasts and anyone with a graphics tablet.
