BAFTA Nominates ‘Hero,’ ‘Boxtrolls,’ ‘LEGO’

Providing further clues to the twists and turns that will occur on Oscars night, the BAFTA Awards has nominated three films for its best animated feature film honor.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominated Disney’s Big Hero 6, LAIKA and Focus Features’ The Boxtrolls and Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Movie for Best Animated Film.

Additionally, the org nominated three films for Best Short Animation: The Bigger Picture, Monkey Love Experiments and My Dad.

Five features were singled out as nominees for Best Special Visual Effects:

  • Dawn of the Planet Of The Apes
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
  • Interstellar
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past

The British-made hybrid animation-live action feature Paddington earned two nominations: Best Adapted Screenplay and Outstanding British Film.

The winners will be announced Feb. 8 at the Royal Opera House in London in a gala ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry.
