YouTube is set to roll out Feb. 23 a standalone app for children.
The app will connect young users with age-appropriate video content and channels, organized into categories: shows, music, learning and explore. It will initially be available on the Android platform, with additional platform availability planned.
The focus will be on content that encourages development of early literacy and the app will draw on content from top brands and channels like HIT Entertainment, Sesame Workshop, Jim Henson TV, DreamWorks TV, Mother Goose Club, National Geographic Kids and Talking Tom and Friends.
The app also is said to target older kids with YouTube-generated content like popular contributors the Vlogbrothers and Stampylonghead.
