‘What’s Opera, Doc?’ Cels Headline Animation Auction

Two animation cels from the iconic 1957 Warner Bros. short “What’s Opera, Doc?” will be among the rare animation items to be auctioned next month at Heritage Auctions’ Animation Art Signature Auction.

One cel features Elmer Fudd as Siegfried and Bugs Bunny as Brünnhilde in their dance sequence from the short and the other features Fudd with his spear and magic helmet.

The cels come from the collection of animator Jerry Eisenberg. Each is expected to sell for more than $5,000.

Other items set for the auction, which runs April 9-10, include a screen-used production cel from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a color model from the Beatles’ animated feature Yellow Submarine, a 1935 black-and-white Mickey Mouse production cel, a cel from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” sequence in Fantasia, Eyvind Earle concept and color key paintings from Sleeping Beauty, a coach concept painting for Cinderella by Mary Blair, and more.
