British children’s author Giles Paley-Phillips’s popular rhyming tale The Fearsome Beastie (Maverick Arts Publishing, 2011) will be adapted into a CG animated film featuring the voices of screen legend Brian Blessed, Alison Steadman and Lizzie Waterworth.
The adaptation is being produced by Slurpy Studios and directed by Katie Steed and Jon Hunt. It is due to be released this year.
“It’s extremely exciting and a dream come true to see one of my books adapted into a film, and it was amazing to meet the vocal cast,” Paley-Phillips told the Sussex Express. “Brian Blessed and Alison Steadman were so charming and enthusiastic about the project.”
The Fearsome Beastie centers on a “beastie” who is searching for something to eat and uses a number of clever tricks to try to fool his favorite snack: children. The tale has earned numerous book awards, including the People’s Book Prize, the Heart of Hawick Book Award and a commendation from The Forward National Literature Awards in the U.S.
