Blackmagic Design has made available for public beta testing DaVinci Resolve 12. Customers are invited to download the pro editing and color corrections software from the company’s website. Blackmagic also announced new naming for the DaVinci Resolve product line, plus extra “secret” features not included in the original launch.
Key new features of version 12 include support for Intel Iris and Iris Pro GPUs, which improves performance for a wider range of systems, including laptops; ability to create optimized media proxies with custom settings for both codec and resolution for even faster editorial performance with high-res media and native RAW camera files; and a new Smooth Cut transition that creates a seamless segue between different parts of an interview so editors don’t have to cover jump cuts with b-roll.
The public beta marks the rename of free program DaVinci Resolve Lite to just DaVinci Resolve — which is a complete, professional solution for SD, HD and Ultra HD projects. The paid version (US $995) is now called DaVinci Resolve Studio and features additional features needed by larger facilities, including multi GPU support, DCI 4K, 3D stereoscopic tools, multi-user collaboration tools, remote rendering and more.
