‘Inside Out’ Tames ‘Jurassic’ at Box Office

Pixar’s emotional family-friendly adventure Inside Out finally got a leg up on the CG dino destruction of Jurassic World as the Monday tally for the Fourth of July weekend box office takings show the animated offering with a $29.7 million total over the action flick’s $29.2 million. The previous revealed Sunday night predictions had Jurassic World on top.

The triumph should be a balm for Pixar, which had its 14 consecutive No. 1 opening run broken by the competition over the June 19 weekend, with Inside Out coming in second with $90.4 million — enough to rank it the highest grossing NON No. 1 opening. The two blockbusters have been neck and neck ever since.

Other titles on the vfx/animation radar that came in the top 10 for the holiday weekend were Terminator Genisys (No. 3; est. $28.7m), Ted 2 (No. 5, $11m) and San Andreas (No. 8, $3m).
