Animate Dubai, the first international animated film festival to take place in the GCC region, is set to hold its inaugural event this December 3-5 at the Dubai Design District creative hub. And thanks to an overwhelming response of over 1,000 submissions early in the year, the organizers have extended the deadline for entries until August 20, 2015.
Arab and international animation professionals, amateurs and students are invited to submit features, shorts, series, experimental pieces and commercial works across all genres of animation for consideration in this year’s programming. The three-day festival will offer tons of screenings for children and adults as well as informative talks, engaging activities for all ages and appearances by animation pioneers from across the globe.
“This all-inclusive festival comes as a natural progression to our work” says Lina Younes, Founder and Director of The Animation Chamber. “In the past three years, we have grown and looked after a dormant sector here in the UAE, cropping up considerable talent and stimulating creative potential across a range of animation practices and techniques. The time has come to bring a punctual, tangible showcase of quality animation to UAE-based makers and fans alike”.
Animate Dubai (animatedubai.com) is supported by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and has partnered with Dubai Design District, Dubai Studio City and Dubai Film & TV Commission, as well as other major festivals including Annecy, Ta7rik and Cyber Sousa in Xiamen and regional ASIFA outposts.
