Phil Peterson Named Toon Boom Tech Advisor

Toon Boom Animation has named industry veteran Phil Peterson as technology advisor to the animation production software company. As part of his mandate, Peterson will evaluate and make recommendations for technology development relating to the company’s current and future products.

“Toon Boon Animation has a renewed focus in developing professional products that will enable better storytelling,” said Peterson. “I’m very excited to be able to work with them in pushing the boundaries of their animation and rendering technology.”

Peterson has held key tech positions at leading studios for over 20 years. His resume includes stints as head of R&D at Industrial Light & Magic, head of technology for Lucasfilm Animation in the US and Singapore, both principal engineer and chief architect for ILM/Lucasfilm, CTO at Digital Domain and SVP and CTO for ImageMovers Digital. He holds both a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science and is a Technical Achievement Academy Award recipient.

As a member of the Visual Effects Society and a SIGGRAPH Pioneer, Peterson works with the Academy Sci-Tech Awards’ Digital Imaging Technology Subcommittee, and recently co-chaired the DigiPro 2015 symposium.
