The inaugural 2015 Irish Screen America (formerly Irish Film New York) aims to promote emerging Irish talent in the U.S. by showcasing the latest from native creators in film, television, animation, videogames and interactive media. The Los Angeles (Sept. 25-27) and New York City (Oct. 2-4) launch of the new organization was announced by Emmy-winning producer/director Niall McKay, who serves as executive director and curator of the event.
Highlights in animation and interactive media include the New Talent Showcase, taking place September 26 at 7 p.m. in L.A.; a selection of shorts, web series and animations featuring fresh Irish actors, directors and writers. Among the attending talents is Liam Hallihan, creator of the short-form webtoon Martin’s Life. The showcase will be followed by a Q&A. (In NYC Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.)
Following is Stories from the Field: Three Irish Film Directors in Hollywood (Sept. 26, 8:30 pm., L.A.) which features Ruairi Robinson, whose first animated short Fifty Percent Grey was nominated for the Oscar and recently produced viral sensation The Leviathan, now being turned into a feature. Robinson is joined by Gary Shore (Dracula Untold) and Ciaran Foy (Sinister 2, Citadel).
