Square Enix has announced the production of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, a feature-length, CG-animated movie based on the RPG videogame which will tell a story that runs concurrently with the game’s. The new film project is being directed by Takeshi Nozue, who co-directed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. According to The Verge, Nozue has said that the core team on Kingsglaive also worked on Advent Children.
Kingsglaive will feature voice performances by Game of Thrones stars Sean Bean (Ned Stark) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), as well as Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. Fans will have to wait and see whether Sean Bean dies in this movie, too.
The Final Fantasy XV game follows a young man named Noctis, but the Kingsglaive film story will center on his father, King Regis, in a parallel narrative. In the game, Noctis sets out from the capital city on a fantastical journey with three friends, while the movie reveals what happens to his pops back in Crown City after he leaves. Square Enix reportedly plans to release the movie sometime this year.
