Cartoon Network Latin America and top production house Ánima Estudios (Top Cat: The Movie, Legend of the Mummies, El Chavo) have announced the winners of their joint venture animation contest held in June. Participating short films and series pitches were aimed at kids ages 6-11. The first place prizes were awarded to short film concept The Seventh Knight and series contender WTQ.
The first place awardees will receive a cash prize, and have their projects produced by Ánima Estudios to be featured on Cartoon Network Latin America’s regional content platforms. The contest attracted around 200 entries from several LatAm countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
Short film first place winner The Seventh Knight was created by Andrés Eduardo Luna Rivera and Sebastián Felipe Luna Rivera of Colombia, with second place going to Alimentura by Michael Abarca and José Moreno of Venezuela. The animated series first-place winner WTQ: What the quest is this? is by Ernesto Molina of Mexico, while second place went to Frida Mortem from Osmaylin Evelyn and Archila León of Venezuela.
“We are very happy with the response we got to this contest,” said Hernan La Greca, senior creative director of original production for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast Latin America. “We are thrilled to support animation in Latin America through initiatives that promote the development of new talent and provide exposure to new ideas and productions.”

García Letona, COO at Ánima Estudios. “We are excited to confirm that there’s a huge amount of talent in Latin America committed to creating animated content.”
