NYC Concept Shop Unveils Retro Nicktoons Experience

STORY, an ever-changing concept store located in New York City, is helping celebrate 25 years of Nickelodeon animation with “Remember When” — an immersive, retro experience paying homage to memorable ’90s characters and series.

Open August 5 through September 18, “Remember When” aims to bring the ’90s “back to life, back to reality.” STORY has teamed up with over 25 brands on items that celebrate the spirit of Nickelodeon’s seminal decade. Everything from a SpongeBob rolex to themed Harry Barker treats for cats, dogs and CatDogs will be on offer, set against a backdrop of portraits of beloved ’90s Nick characters reimagined by local illustrator Charlotte Fassler.

The curated experience centers on five “clubs” that highlight fan-favorite shows and other ’90s pop culture elements: Homeroom (products featuring a mash-up of ’90s characters, plus brands that give back like State Bags and Out of Print); Besties (remembering Nickelodeon’s iconic duos); Double Dare (Crshr and Boardies goods inspired by the game show and its notorious slime); City Kids (Hey Arnold-inspired pieces for urbanites); and Yearbookers (all things nostalgically ’90s).

The NYC experience will also feature a photo op with the Double Dare podium and hamster wheel physical challenge; a display from Perch Interactive showcasing behind-the-scenes interviews with Nicktoons creators; and an in-store selfie station by Foxtales where visitors can get (digitally) slimed. Enjoy it all with a soundtrack of ’90s chart-toppers curated by Time Travel Radio. Stop by for #TBT Happier Hours every Thursday from 6-8 p.m., Aug. 11 – Sept. 15.

STORY will extend “Remember When” outside its walls for the first time through partnerships with Ron Robinson, which will present a pared-down shop-in-shop in its Santa Monica store on August 18, and NeimanMarcus.com from August 24 to September 18.

Exclusive product collaborators include: Bamford Watch Department Rolex (three designs inspired by Double Dare, Nickelodeon animation, and SpongeBob SquarePants); Chasing Paper (removable wallpaper, two patterns); Denik (custom journals); Dormify (pillows inspired by Nicktoons from Ren & Stimpy to SpongeBob); Harry Barker (pet treats and dog toy modeled on Chuckie Finster’s glasses); Keds (two exclusive sneaker designs); Leeloo Soaps (five custom bars, including “Slime” and “Wallaby Wash”); Mi Cielo (Rugrats onesies); Print All Over Me (apparel & accessories); Rockets of Awesome (kids’ wear); Samsung (character-inspired electronics); Smashbox (three retro lipstick shades); Stance Socks; Sugarfina (gummies); Tidal Flip Flops (SpongeBob, Ren & Stimpy and character print); and WatzzUp (3D-molded power chargers in character shapes).
