There’s been a toon takeover in the digital sphere: the “Recipe for Disaster” Russian-language episode of international hit animated series Masha and the Bear has surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube, beating out the video for Adele’s smash single “Hello” at 1.799B to take 6th place in the most-viewed videos of all time list.
The episode, in which Masha perseveres in cooking up some porridge by herself, is the first non-music video in Russian to reach the top of the charts.
“Recipe for Disaster” in the original Russian can be viewed on the Mashamedvedtv YouTube channel, and has been translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Ukrainian for regional broadcast. Masha and the Bear from Animaccord studio launched in 2009, quickly becoming an international phenomenon. The show is distributed in nearly every country with key partners including Netflix, Turner (UK & LatAm), KiKA (Germany), France TV, Sony Music, NBCUniversal, Televisa, et al.
