The CG critter crew is back in action in a new trailer for The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature — coming to theaters August 18. The sequel to the 2014 animated caper based on Peter Lepeniotis’ short Surly Squirrel is a US-Canada-Korea co-production between ToonBox Entertainment, Red Rover International and Gulfstream Pictures, distributed by Open Road Films.
Directed by Cal Brunker, who wrote the film with Scott Bindley and Bob Barlen, The Nut Job 2 brings back Surly Squirrel (Will Arnett) and pals for another impossible mission. When the Nut Shop shuts down for good, the animals relocate to Oakton’s Liberty Park — only to find out the evil mayor has decided to bulldoze it to build a slipshod amusement park. It’s up to Surly and his ragtag team to save their home, defeat the mayor, and take back the park.
The voice cast also features Katherine Heigl, Jackie Chan, Peter Stormare, Bobby Cannavale, Isabela Moner and Maya Rudolph. Mike Karz and Bill Bindley produce.
Check out the high-energy, slapstick-packed trailer below — complete with explosions, sabotage, and ill-timed bodily functions.
