Marking the start of Black History Month in the US, African-American animator Brandon Lake’s new stop-motion short Tin is having its exclusive online premiere February 1, through KQED’s Vimeo channel. Featuring music composed by Justin Bell (Cloud Atlas, Sense 8), the bittersweet film takes viewers into the world of 1950s jazz and one man’s mourning for a lost love.
Lake, an animator at acclaimed stop-motion house Stoopid Buddy Stoodios working on Robot Chicken (Adult Swim) and SuperMansion (Crackle), was raised in LA in a lively Anguillian household. As a child, he listened to the wild adventures of Anansi the spider and other Caribbean folktales, which fed his lifelong interest in storytelling and inspired him to create worlds of his own. The USC graduate strives to bring his personal experiences and unique voice to the diverse field of animation.

Tin is being showcased through KQED’s national public TV series Film School Shorts, which broadcasts a wide variety of short films from vibrant young filmmakers to 88% of the US.
