Cosmic Forces, the LA-based creators of mobile VR hit Goosebumps: Night of Scares, has brought on entertainment industry veteran Mark Caplan to help lead the company’s aggressive expansion of its virtual reality and augmented reality portfolio.
Caplan has most notably worked with entertainment properties including Ghostbusters, the Spider-Man movie franchise, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Breaking Bad, The Smurfs and The Simpsons over his 20-plus year career in licensing. He most recently headed the licensing and merchandising group for Sony Pictures Consumer Products.
Caplan will join Cosmic Forces CEO Ziad Seirafi in a business development capacity, helping to identify new opportunities for VR and AR. The company’s team is currently meeting with representatives from studio, TV, toy, comic-book, and other intellectual property holders to identify mobile, VR and AR development opportunities.
Goosebumps: Night of Scares was one of the early breakout VR mobile games, racking up 3.5 million downloads, 60 million YouTube views and a 500,000 monthly users average. The game also garnered support from Oculus, Apple, Google Play and Amazon.
