‘Moana’ Wins MPSE Golden Reel for Animation

The 64th Golden Reel Awards, presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), took place Sunday to celebrate the best in cinema and television soundcraft from 2016.

The feature animation prize for sound and music editing went to Disney’s Moana, which was up against Finding Dory (Pixar), Kubo and the Two Strings (LAIKA), The Little Prince (Netflix), Zootopia (Disney), Sing (Illumination Ent.) and The Red Turtle (Studio Ghibli, Wild Bunch, Why Not Productions).

Moana had also been nominated along with Trolls in the musical feature race, but the award went to La La Land. Hacksaw Ridge took both the dialogue/ADR and FX/foley prizes for feature film. As previously announced, this year’s MPSE Filmmaker Award went to Guillermo del Toro, and the Career Achievement Award was bestowed on Harry Cohen.
