Univ. del Cine Opens Call for TALENT Scholarship in LatAm

Fundación Universidad del Cinema in Buenos Aires has issued a call for submissions for prospective Animation and Multimedia Film Degree students across Latin America to compete for the TALENT Scholarship, an initiative of the university in partnership with regional festivals to help expand training for animation professionals in Latin America.

“The scholarships selection will be based on merit and criteria of artistic, academic and professional quality,” noted Martina Santoro, Coordinator of the degree program (and head of OKAM Studio). “In this first contest the participating countries will be: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. We hope to extend this call in the future.”

Each country will run its own contest in which it will award one 100% scholarship and three additional scholarships covering 50% of the Animation and Multimedia Degree tuition. The scholarships will be applied to all five years of the degree program for the winning students. Participating judges include Oscar Grillo, Nelson Luty and Jorge R. Gutierrez.

All required documents for the TALENT Scholarship competitions must submitted by Monday, February 13, 2017. The Evaluation Committee’s results will be announced the week of Feb. 20. More information is available here:www.ucine.edu.ar/beca-animacion

The scholarships are made possible with the support of top regional animation festivals: Anima Córdoba (Argentina), Anima Mundi (Brazil), Chilemonos (Chile), Siggraph Bogota (Colombia) and Pixelatl (Mexico).

“Animation is the past and the future of cinema,” said Juan Antin, Director of the program. “From the first experiments like the magic lantern to the latest CGI productions, which surpassed with their technique everything we’ve imagined, there was always the work of multidisciplinary artists and innovative technicians behind them. Because animation is the only discipline that encompasses all the arts: literature, music, acting, the plastic arts and, above all, the cinema.

“That is why it is necessary to have an integral formation, while at the same time protecting individual creativity, while providing the right amount of art, technology and culture. In Latin America we have a lot of talent, with many stories to tell and with a lot of desire to do. That’s why the Universidad del Cine, with its new scholarship program, is betting on local talent, seeking to discover young people prepared to forge the emerging industry of the regional animation. ”
