Alcon Entertainment is stepping into the animation dimension for the first time, announcing an adaptation of Irish author Shane Hagerty’s Darkmouth. The comedy-fantasy-adventure flick will be directed by David Pimental (head of story, Moana; story artist, Big Hero 6) and Storks helmer Doug Sweetland, who worked in the animation department on many Pixar projects, from Toy Story to Monsters, Inc. and The Incredibles.
Hagerty’s tween novel series centers on a lad named Finn, who is the latest in a long line of heroes who defend their hometown of Darkmouth from fierce, magical creatures called the Legends. He also happens to be the worst Legend Hunter in history. When the Legends plan a mass attack, what follows is a madcap adventure riddled with mythological creatures, humor and action.
The script for Darkmouth is being written by Lloyd Taylor, who worked on Race to Witch Mountain and Enchanted as part of the Disney Writers Program and more recently contributed to the upcoming Fox/Blue Sky feature Pigeon Impossible (2019). The project is being produced by Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove alongside simon Brooks (Canyon Creek Films), Kira Davis and Craig Peck (8:38).
