CITV in the UK has commissioned a brand-new animated comedy adventure series from The Illuminated Film Company: The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, starring popular comedian and TV personality Johnny Vegas. Commissioned by Director of Digital Channels Paul Mortimer, the show is set to debut in Summer 2019.
The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is a 26 x 11 min. series aimed at kids 6-11 created by series director Ed Foster and developed by The Illuminated Film Company. It follows the misadventures of Dave Spud (Vegas), the close-knit but somewhat anarchic Spud family, and their friends as they try to enjoy the ordinary pleasures in life … but it’s never long before the world starts to misbehave around Davd. Rubbish! So rubbish!
“Thankfully, laughter is the best medicine of all,” observes producer Iain Harvey.
The voice cast includes more top talent besides Vegas, who has recently appeared in the feature Tulip Fever and TV’s Benidorm: comedy star Gina Yashere (Married Single Other) plays Dave’s best friend, Gareth the Starfish; with the family Spud voiced by the likes of Philip Glenister, Colin McFarlane, Lisa Hammond and Jane Horrocks.
Emma Barnard, who will be Commissioning Editor for the series, adds: “The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is a welcome addition to the CITV roster of original programming. This new animated adventure series will see Dave Spud and co embark on some very unexpected, fun and crazy adventures.”
The Illuminated Film Co. is a London-based studio which has produced successful series including four-time BAFTA nominee Little Princess and The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories, and the TV special On Angel Wings. The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is being represented internationally by Beta Film.
