Clip: A Little Girl Makes a Big Decision in ‘The Breadwinner’

We’re just about a week away from the highly-anticipated US theatrical release of Nora Twomey’s The Breadwinner, and GKIDS is threatening to break our hearts with this new preview clip. The PG-13 film arrives in select cinemas on November 17.

Read more about the film in Ramin Zahed’s story for the December issue of Animation Magazine (No. 275).

Synopsis: Parvana is an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy in order to support her family. Working alongside her friend Shauzia, Parvana discovers a new world of freedom-and danger. With undaunted courage, Parvana draws strength from the fantastical stories she invents, as she embarks on a quest to find her father and reunite her family. (Screenplay by Anita Doron.)

The voice cast features Saara Chaudry as Parvana, Soma Chhaya, Laara Sadiq, Shaista Latif, Ali Badash, Patrick McGrath, Lily Erlinghäuser, Finn Jackson Parle, Noorin Gulamgaus and Kawa Ada.

Executive produced by Angelina Jolie and based on the novel by Deborah Ellis, The Breadwinner is produced by Cartoon Saloon (Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells), Aircraft Prod., Melusine Prod., Guru Studios and GKIDS.
