Paramount, Hasbro Play Nice with 5-Year Film Deal

More major movies inspired by popular toy brands (and original ideas) will be heading to big screens thanks to a new agreement between Paramount Pictures and Hasbro. The five-year distribution and production pact will see Hasbro’s new Allspark Animation and Allspark Pictures (My Little Pony: The Movie) playing an active role in developing and delivering the live-action and animated titles.

The companies will partner on financing the projects at various levels of investment (terms not disclosed), with Paramount handling distribution of the projects worldwide. The partnership will also cover TV collaborations.

This agreement builds on an existing relationship which has seen Hasbro and Paramount partner on five blockbuster Transformer movies as well as two G.I. Joe features. The first Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee, is due out in December 2018.

“Paramount has been a valuable partner of Hasbro’s for more than a decade, and we’re looking forward to taking our relationship to the next level,” said Brian Goldner, Chairman and CEO, Hasbro. “Storytelling, in its many forms, is revolutionizing our business and differentiating Hasbro in all sectors where we operate. We look forward to collaborating with the talented team at Paramount to create powerful new stories for kids, fans and families globally.”

Hasbro recently hired Greg Mooradian as President of Allspark Pictures, responsible for live-action film and TV. The recently registered Allspark Animation label is lead by Meghan McCarthy. The animation, film and TV business also includes Dublin toon shop Boulder Media (acquired in 2016) and distribution arm Hasbro Studios. Hasbro Chief Content Officer Stephen Davis oversees the entertainment division.

We’re hoping this means we finally get an action-packed treatment of Mr. Potato-Head.
