Masaaki Yuasa’s ‘Mind Game’ Streams Exclusively on VRV

The acclaimed eclectic Japanese animated feature Mind Game (2004), from award-winning directors Masaaki Yuasa (Lu Over the Wall, Night Is Short Walk on Girl) and Kouji Morimoto (Genius Party, The Animatrix), launched Friday Dec. 12 for streaming exclusively on VRV.

This psychedelic adult-animation is a disorienting but hypnotizing clash of animation styles, tied together with expertly tailored music from Fayray and Seiichi Yamamoto. Based on the graphic novel by Robin Nishi, the film follows a lackluster young man who still nurses a crush on his childhood sweetheart, who is engaged to someone else. After a bad run in with the Yakuza, he travels to heaven and back for a second shot at life and love, making the most of it with a series of incredibly weird experiences.
