The Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) has revealed the nominees for the 22nd Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards, honoring theatrical motion pictures, TV projects, commercials, music videos and — for the first time — animated features. Representing the inaugural toon nominees are the creative whizzes behind Cars 3 (Disney-Pixar), Coco (Disney), Despicable Me 3 (Universal-Illumination), The LEGO Batman Movie (WB/Animal Logic) and Loving Vincent (BreakThru Films). The winners will be announced at the Awards Gala on Jan. 27 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.
The nominations announcement was made by Guild President Nelson Coates, ADG, and Awards Producers Thomas Walsh, ADG and Thomas Wilkins, ADG. As previously announced, Kathleen Kennedy will be honored with the Cinematic Imagery Award. Disney icons Ron Clements and John Musker will receive the William Cameron Menzies Award. Bambi artist Tyrus Wong and Oscar-winning production designer Sir Ken Adam (Dr. Strangelove) will be posthumously inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame. IATSE President Matthew D. Loeb will receive a special Leadership Award; production designer Michael Baugh will receive the Outstanding Creative Achievement Award; and Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Norm Newberry, James Murakami, John Moffitt and Martin Kline.
