Fox TV network has picked up an animated series pilot inspired by the comedy stylings of comic, actor and producer Kevin Hart, titled Lil Kev. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Lionsgate Television, the show is being written by The Simpsons vet Michael Price and Matt Claybrooks (Everybody Hates Chris). Hart is executive producing with Price and Jeff Clanagan, with Claybroks as co-exec producer.
In Lil Kev, our hero is a small but optimistic and highly imaginative 12-year-old kid dealing with the challenges of growing up in a crime-filled inner city area of North Philly. Lil Kev navigates this world with the help (and sometimes hindrance) of his strong, quick-tempered mother, drug-addicted father, pessimistic older brother, ex-con uncle and wise-ass talking dog.
In addition to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Ride Along franchise star Hart, the project features the voices of Wanda Sykes (Vampirina), Keith Robertson, Gerald “Slink” Johnson (Black Jesus) and Deon Cole (Black-ish). Hart’s previous animation roles include George in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and Snowball in The Secret Life of Pets.
Lil Kev joins a growing a Fox TV animation pipeline, along with a new series from Amy Poehler (The Mighty B!) and producer-writer spouse duo Mike and Julie Scully (Parks and Recreation, The Simpsons) announced last August.
