Miyazaki’s ‘Boro’ Short Premiering at Ghibli Museum Next Month

While Studio Ghibli fans are still flying high on the news last fall that both father and son directors Hayao Miyazaki and Goro Miyazaki are working on new feature projects, a smaller entry into the studo’s canon has been quietly marching to completion.

Now, after three years in production, Hayao’s 15-minute short film Boro the Caterpillar will be premiering in Ghibli Museum’s theater on March 21. While shorts usually screen at the museum for one month, Boro will get an extended run through to August 31. Tickets for the Mitaka, Tokyo venue are available online.

The short’s synopsis, translated by SoraNews: Just before the dawn breaks, Boro the caterpillar hatches from an egg in the grass. The morning sun, the first he’d ever seen, was dazzlingly bright, and he drew in his first breaths of the delicious air of the world. He climbed down to the surface, where other caterpillars and hostile creatures were, and took his first steps upon this earth.
