‘Breadwinner’ Takes Three Canadian Screen Awards

The multi-day celebration of the platform-spanning 6th Canadian Screen Awards came to a close Sunday night, with the reveal of the major feature film and television honors. While it lost out on the big Best Motion Picture prize to the evening’s live-action favorite Maudie, Nora Twomey’s animated triumph The Breadwinner made good on its impressive six nominations by winning in four categories: Original Score, Original Song, Sound Editing, and Adapted Screenplay.

This year’s CSAs marked the first edition in which an animated feature was nominated for Best Picture. Over a decade ago, Sylvain Chomet’s The Triplets of Belleville won the overall film award in the previous iteration, the Genie Awards, for producer Paul Cadieux.

As revealed at an earlier awards gala last week, the Best Animated Short Award went to Matthew Rankin’s The Tesla World Light, and in the TV categories Best Animated Series went to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Vikings took Best Visual Effects.
